G20 Ministers' Declaration focuses on accelerating the digital transition

The 20 G2021 Ministerial Meeting on digitalisation was held this Thursday (05.08.2021) in Trieste, Italy, with a call to accelerate the transformation in this area of ​​the economy and governments.

The Ministers, under the Italian Presidency, approved a Final statement in which they urged to accelerate digital transformation based on convergence, considering the opportunities it offers to obtain its benefits and taking into account the different levels of development of each nation.

To this end, G20 participants signed a Declaration that identifies 12 shares to accelerate the digital transition:

  1. Digital transformation in production for sustainable growth, taking advantage of digitalization for an economic recovery that aims to be resilient, strong, sustainable and inclusive, in the three dimensions: “People, planet and prosperity".
  2. Taking advantage of the trustworthy artificial intelligence for the inclusion of SMEs and the promotion of new businesses.
  3. Measurement, practice and impact of the digital economy.
  4. Awareness and protection of consumers in the global digital economy.
  5. Child protection and empowerment in the digital environment.
  6. Promoting innovation for smart cities and communities.
  7. Connectivity e inclusion social.
  8. Free flow of data with trust and cross-border data flows.
  9. Digital tools for public services.
  10. Digital identity.
  11. Agile regulation.
  12. Transformation of the work group into a Permanent Working Group.

The aforementioned Meeting of Ministers of Digital Economy is one of the ministerial events that are part of the G20 Leaders Summit 2021, which is hosted by Italy for October 2021. On this occasion, the Heads of State and Government will endorse some of the main results achieved by the Ministers.

The G20 is made up of 19 countries and the European Union. The 19 countries are: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
