US CBP incorporates a green trade strategy

-

The United States Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) launched the Green Trade Strategy on Thursday (30.06.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX), the government agency reported in a statement.

The strategy establishes a blueprint for combating the negative impacts of climate change consistent with the agency's mission, while strengthening efforts to combat environmental trade crimes, including illegal logging; wildlife trafficking; illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; and illegal mining, CBP said.

It also defines objectives for environmentally sustainable business policies, programs and infrastructure within the agency.

“CBP’s Green Trade Strategy provides a framework with future vision “to help the agency prepare for climate-related challenges while seizing opportunities to grow the green economy and foster American innovation,” the statement said. CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus.

“…it also highlights the many opportunities that will accompany a more resilient and efficient customs environment, while spurring innovation of cutting-edge, green solutions made in the United States,” he added. Ann Marie Highsmith, Executive Assistant Commissioner, CBP Office of Trade.

CBP explained that the agency seeks to set an example for customs authorities around the world to develop higher and greener standards for global trade, while creating an opportunity for government, industry and the public to unite efforts in creating an environment for a more sustainable future.

Recent studies indicate that global supply chains may account for up to 80% of the world’s total carbon emissions. Furthermore, environmental crimes account for between USD 85 billion and USD 265 billion in criminal proceeds each year and are often linked to money laundering and the financing of transnational criminal organisations.
