The Secretariat of Government of Agroindustry reports that this Thursday (31.1.2019) the first container of 11 tons of beef was sent to one of the most important markets in the United States, Philadelphia, after the shipment of 500 kilos to the city of Miami last month.
"This shipment is a key strategic achievement for our insertion in the world," said the Secretary of Government for Agroindustry, Luis Miguel Etchevehere. He added: "The United States is the world's leading importer of food and the leading importer of beef, so the achievement is doubly considered."
The trade exchange occurs after the United States Department of Agriculture granted an annual tariff-free quota of 20.000 tons of boneless, fresh, chilled or frozen meat and the consequent 21 / 2019 resolution signed by Etchevehere a few days ago, which sets an initial quota of 5.000 tons of this product for the aforementioned destination. Starting April 1, the definitive distribution formula will be adopted for the remaining 15.000 tons.
This shipment of meat cuts that will allow North American consumers to appreciate the quality and added value of our meats, corresponds to the company Swift Argentina.
The reopening of the fresh beef market to the United States occurs after the closure on June 4, 2001, by the USDA/APHIS, and based on the intense bilateral work carried out by the agroindustrial portfolio in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Senasa and the United States Department of Agriculture.
The meat market is one of the most dynamic. In 2018, 556.602 tons of bone-in beef were exported, which is equivalent to a growth of 77,77% compared to 2017.
