CAN approves the decision to form a group to evaluate its reform and modernization

The Andean Community (CAN) made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, approved this Wednesday (05.10.2022), in Lima, the decision to form a working group that will be responsible for evaluating its reform, modernization and strengthening.

The measure was approved during meetings of the Andean Council of Foreign Ministers (CAMRE) and the Expanded CAMRE, held within the framework of the 52nd General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which is taking place in the capital of Peru, the CAN reported in a statement.

The Secretary General of the CAN, Jorge Hernando Pedraza, and the Foreign Minister of Peru, César Landa, participated in the meetings, representing the pro tempore presidency of the organization that his country currently holds.

Also present were Peruvian Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi and Peru's representative to the United Nations, Manuel Rodríguez Cuadros.

Also present were Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguín, Ecuadorian Vice Minister of Commerce Daniel Legarda, Colombian Ambassador to the OAS Luis Ernesto Vargas, and Bolivian Vice Minister of Commerce Benjamín Blanco.

Senior officials discussed related issues with the fulfillment of the mandate of the Andean Presidential Council and the Camre held on September 21 in New York, within the framework of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations.

At that meeting, the foreign ministers agreed to establish a special group with the mandate to evaluate the reform, modernization and strengthening of the Andean Community.

At the meeting on Wednesday, the Reactivation of the High Level Group for Border Integration and Development and the participation of the Member Countries in the Ministerial Meeting between the Andean Central American Integration System (SICA) and the Andean Community, which will take place next November.
