Argentina recorded a trade surplus of 1.5% in March $279 million, although it represents a contraction of 30,2% in relation to the positive balance achieved in the same month of 2021, official sources reported this Wednesday (20.04.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX).
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC), the volume of trade (exports plus imports) increased by 30,7% year-on-year in March, to a value of 14.425 billion dollars.
According to the data released, in March Argentina achieved a record of exports for USD 7.352 millions, 28,5% more than in the same month of 2021, due to a 22,6% increase in prices and 4,9% in quantities. This is an indicator that shows the effect on international raw material prices generated by the outbreak of war in Europe.
Evaluating the evolution of sales by category, increases were recorded in fuels and energy, 118,1%; primary products, 36,8%; manufactured goods of industrial origin, 32,3%; and manufactured goods of agricultural origin, 10,5%.
Meanwhile, Imports totaled USD 7.073 million, which represented a year-on-year increase of 33%, due to the increase of 16,7% in quantities and 13,7% in prices.
Indec stated that all economic uses of imports showed year-on-year increases, except passenger motor vehicles, which fell 1,2%. Fuels and lubricants rose 195,7%; capital goods, 37,8%; consumer goods, 30,4%; other goods, 24,4%, mainly due to the increase in goods shipped by postal services (couriers); parts and accessories for capital goods, 20,3%; and intermediate goods, 18,5%.
In detail, the report noted that the main destinations of Argentine exports were: Brazil, the United States, China, Chile, India, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Peru, Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, in that order, which together accounted for 58,0% of total foreign sales.
Meanwhile, Main countries of origin of imports were: China, Brazil, the United States, Paraguay, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Mexico, Italy and the Netherlands, which represented 70,3% of total purchases abroad.
Slow down the pace
Some 2022 figures show a slower pace of foreign trade. In the first quarter, Argentina accumulated a trade surplus of USD 1.394 million, compared to a positive balance of USD 2.531 million in the same period of 2021.- (Technical report on Argentine trade, March 2022)
