Customs fined a shipping company more than $4.6 million for importing 30 thousand kg of iron without authorization

The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) fined a shipping company more than $4.6 million for irregularities when importing 30 thousand kg of iron without authorization.

According to the DGA in a statement, the discovery was made in Galvan Port, the main oil terminal in Buenos Aires, located in Bahía Blanca (Argentina), when customs agents discovered a load of iron lacking the necessary documentation to enter the country. The 30.000 kg of metal, worth $4.640.000, were being transported on a ship flying the flag of Hong Kong.

Following the inspection operation, Customs personnel confirmed that The iron structures did not have the proper certifications from health and environmental protection agencies. to guarantee their definitive importation.

Thus, iron elements, which were used to support and transport wind turbine blades and equipment, were seized as part of non-economic prohibitions.

The Argentine Customs Office stated that the action falls within the framework of Article 608, paragraph A, and Article 610, paragraph H, of the Customs Code. The aforementioned regulations establish import prohibitions in order to preserve the environment, conserve natural resources and prevent pollution.

Specifically, the General Directorate of Customs announced that it fined the shipping company $4.640.000 for having made an inaccurate declaration, in violation of article 954 of the Customs Code. "As a result, the shipping company has paid the full penalty," it determined.
