The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) announced this Thursday (11.10.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) an improvement in the dog process: the incorporation of 10 new mobile kennels, which will be destined in a first stage to the customs of Posadas, Clorinda, Iguazú and Paso de los Libres (northeast from Argentina).
"In this innovative system that has a closed and lined room with appropriate, thermal and air-conditioned materials, to which is added a retractable patio designed for the dog to relax outdoors," the DGA said in a statement.
The statement explained that the innovation also has a connection of running water to ensure the hygiene of the enclosure, which also has a door with a glass shutter, which opens so that the guide can have not only visual contact, but also physical contact with his dog, without removing him from the place.
Four questions about innovation
— What's new about innovation?
The novelty of the system is that it can be located and transported from one place to another, thus facilitating a practical response to the needs of the customs service. By simply hooking the unit from the top, in 5 minutes it can be placed on the means of transport and located wherever necessary and appropriate. It has a ground levelling system, which makes it more practical and adaptable to the different surfaces on which it is to be installed.
— What is the value of innovation?
It is common for rivers to rise and flood on river borders, or for the readjustment of spaces to make it necessary to relocate a kennel, the hooking system allows this to be done very easily.
— Is the binomial (man-dog) relevant as a working method?
The pairs are of vital importance to the organization, which is why it works and allocates resources for the well-being of the animals and their handlers. In addition to daily care, training and visits from the veterinary professional, the creation of a new space for their rest and stay when they are in the operational places is now added.
—What achievements has the K-9 Training Center had?
The Argentine Customs K-9 Training Center was certified by the World Customs Organization (WCO) as a Regional Dog Training Center —there are only 18 WCO-accredited Regional Dog Training Centers worldwide and the one in Buenos Aires is the only Spanish-speaking one. What's more, In America there are only 3 RDTC (Regional Dog Training Centres) in addition to the one in Buenos Aires: 1 in Canada and 2 in the USA. Within this framework, the Boulogne K-9 Dog School receives guides and dogs from all over South America. In fact, the head of the Customs Office highlighted that the School trains guides from Brazil and Paraguay.
