The opening of the training was led by the federal administrator of public revenues, Carlos Castagneto, and the general director of Customs, Guillermo Michel.
In total, 70 customs agents They participate in training that includes learning techniques to minimize drug trafficking and other transnational organized crime activities.
In addition to the Argentine tax authorities, the opening ceremony was also attended by the Political Counselor of the United States Embassy in Buenos Aires, Robert Allison, and the United Nations Regional Training Leader, César Schiaffino.
At the start of the activities, Guillaume Michel señaló que “Argentina joined this joint program of the United Nations and the WCO in 2016:It is important to highlight that this is a Customs state policy that crosses the different governments.”
“For us, there are two fundamental pillars to strengthen control tasks. One is the exchange of information – and, in this sense, Argentine Customs has signed 39 agreements that allow it to exchange information with 119 countries – the other pillar is technological updating,” he added.
In this regard, the head of Customs announced that a new high-energy portal-type scanner will soon be installed at the Exolgan terminal in Buenos Aires, which will allow 160 containers to be scanned per hour in motion - that is, without the trucks having to stop.
For his part, the federal administrator stressed the historic role and work commitment of customs personnel: “We are all part of a team. Things are not achieved individually, but rather together. Let us continue working together,” he urged.
