The General Directorate of Customs seized a container containing around 200 frozen bull embryos, which together are worth around $500.000, and prevented them from being smuggled.

In a statement released on Tuesday (20.09.2022) it was reported that "During a routine inspection process, Customs inspected a Brazilian vehicle driven to Puerto Iguazú and detected a container with nitrogen in the back of the vehicle, one of those used to transport semen or live material.«.

During the inspection procedure, the carrier revealed that the container contained "around 200 frozen bull embryos, with a market value of between $2.000 and $3.000 per unit," which in total would exceed $500.000, according to official information.

Given the news, all the merchandise was seized and Customs gave intervention to Senasa as the enforcement authority, to subject samples to analysis "in order to accurately determine the breed, pedigree and other characteristics."

In the statement, Customs detailed the following: data: During 2019, frozen bull embryos were imported for a value of US$ 10.900.000; post-pandemic, in 2021, for US$ 15.940.000; and from 1/01/2022 to 18/9/2022 for a total amount of US$ 14.700.000.
