An investigation by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) led to the seizure of 1.700 kg of marijuana that was hidden in a truck carrying eucalyptus and, it is believed, was headed to Buenos Aires.
The procedure —which had the collaboration of the Buenos Aires City Police and the Gendarmerie— was carried out in the National Route No. 12, In Province of MisionesThe driver of the vehicle was arrested by order of Judge Federico Villena, in charge of the Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 1 of Lomas de Zamora. The details of the seized items consist of: 1.150 Bricks rectangular marijuana and 76 plastic packages with flowers, also cannabis sativa. Also, relevant documentation and cell phones were seized.
The Customs investigation had focused on a criminal organization dedicated to the transportation and distribution of narcotics in the area of Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA).
Federal Judge Villena had ordered the investigation to be extended to the interior of the country and, in that framework, after days of investigations in different provinces, the specialized personnel of the Customs established conclusively that the transfer of a vast quantity of narcotics to the capital of the country was about to take place for their subsequent distribution.
The magistrate was given details of the domains of the truck and the semi-trailer that would be used and, thus, he ordered the interception of the vehicle and the search of the cargo it was transporting. Customs personnel and security forces were deployed on the possible routes and so, at night, at the Arch of National Route No. 12, the truck was intercepted by the National Gendarmerie, with the support of a dog that exhibited behavior compatible with the presence of narcotics hidden in the load of wood.
Finally, federal judge Villena was immediately notified, who contacted his counterpart in Posadas, Misiones, to inform him of the ongoing investigation and the time it had been taking, and thus the intervention towards the Federal Court of Lomas de Zamora was defined.
