Innovation in motion: PDCC leads the future of trade in Central America

-

The Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) recently held the mid-term event of the Central American Digital Trade Platform (PDCC), highlighting the advances and benefits of digitalization for trade in the region. During the event, various ways in which technology is transforming the trade landscape in Central America were explored.

One of the highlights was how the PDCC is facilitating access to new international markets, allowing local companies to expand their reach and open doors to global opportunities. Operational efficiency was also a central theme, improving companies’ internal processes, reducing costs and operating times through automation.

Francisco A. Lima Mena, Secretary General of SIECA, highlighted how the platform provides entrepreneurs and traders with access to vital information on import and export regulations, tariffs and requirements. In addition, access to real-time data and analysis allows companies to make more informed and strategic decisions, increasing their competitiveness and capacity for innovation.

This Workshop on the Central American Digital Trade Platform, has been a space that has allowed us to reflect on the progress made and the pending challenges in the implementation of this strategic tool. Representatives of the highest trade authority, representatives of health authorities and representatives of customs authorities of the Central American region participated in the workshop. Throughout this process, we have strengthened our commitment to regional integration and sustainable development, recognizing that the PDCC is much more than a technological platform; it is a bridge that connects our economies, facilitates trade and strengthens the competitiveness of our region in an increasingly dynamic global environment.

The development of the Central American Digital Trade Platform (PDCC) is financed by the European Union (EU), together with funds managed by the Interamerican Development Bank (BID).
