Honduras: Tax exemption for humanitarian donations until February 2021

-

The Government of Honduras has ordered exempt from import taxes the humanitarian assistance to enter the country to help people affected by hurricanes Eta and Iota. The measure is valid from November 14 to February 2021

This was reported by Customs in the statement released this Wednesday, the text of which explains that the measure responds to Legislative Decree 147/2020 of the Official Gazette La Gaceta of November 14, which contains the Law for the Facilitation of International Humanitarian Assistance in the event of disaster and recovery, whose article 8 establishes the exemption from payment of indirect costs such as Fees, Data Transmission Service, Payment for Storage and other related matters.

For this reason, in compliance with articles 115, paragraph q) and 127 of the Regulations of the Central American Uniform Customs Code (RECAUCA) of the obligations of auxiliary of the customs public function, in the category of customs warehouse, even temporary, and article 8 of the Law for the Facilitation of International Humanitarian Assistance in case of disaster and recovery, Payment for storage in the form of humanitarian aid and relief shipments must be suspended for a period of 10 business days. Therefore, customs warehouses are instructed not to charge for storage and other related expenses incurred by merchandise entering Honduras as legally authorized humanitarian aid, for the period between November 14 and the end of February 2021.

Honduras thus facilitates customs procedures and responds to the emergency caused by the natural disaster.
