-

Guatemala and Panama signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Jamaica on Wednesday (15.05.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) to expand customs cooperation, official sources reported.

The IGuatemalan Temporary Customs Superintendent, Edwin Orlando Curtidor, and the General Director of the Customs Administration, Tayra Barsallo, officially signed the document today in Montego Bay.

The MoU calls on both countries to “strengthen customs cooperation and technical assistance that will allow the exchange of information, as well as develop actions to prevent and combat smuggling and customs fraud,” according to a statement from the Guatemalan Tax Administration Superintendency.

Both countries are committed to “promoting connectivity and capacity building, optimizing customs controls and strengthening trade facilitation between the parties and customs activities,” the document adds.

This initiative is part of a supply chain security strategy, which is beneficial for both private companies and national governments alike.
