The governments of Guatemala and Mexico held this Tuesday (23.08.2022) the XXI Meeting of the Group of Ports and Border Services to review the achievements made within the framework of the Bilateral Agreement on Mutual Administrative Assistance and Exchange of Information in Customs Matterss, which came into force on February 17.
The meeting was chaired by the Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Maximiliano Reyes Zúñiga, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Shirley Aguilar Barrera, according to the Mexican government's statement.
Both parties pledged to continue working to improve care at border crossings and to contribute to the trade facilitation between Mexico and Guatemala.
Border
As a result of the coordinated work between both countries, it was agreed to begin the process for the opening of commercial operations at border crossings: Border Port of Engineers-New Orizaba, Cuauhtémoc City-La Mesilla and El Ceibo-El Ceibo, which will significantly boost trade and economic development in Mexico and Guatemala, thereby benefiting the peoples of both nations.
The note indicates that the holding of this meeting corresponds to the commitment of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to strengthen Mexico's relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries, particularly with those that make up the southern border of our country, as established in his visit to Guatemala on May 5 and the agreements reached with the president of that country, Alejandro Giammattei Falla.
The meeting was also attended by: General Directors of Customs Attention and International Affairs of Mexico, Juan de Dios Vázquez, and Customs Operations, Felipe Solano Armenta, both from the National Customs Agency of Mexico, as well as the head of the Superintendency of Customs Administration of Guatemala, Werner Ovalle, among other authorities linked to border control camps.
