The Government of Guatemala held this Friday (05.08.2023) a meeting of the Public-Private Dialogue and Cooperation Table on customs issues with the aim of presenting the progress in trade facilitation, modernization and transparency in management and control, according to the statement from the Superintendency of Tax Administration.
The dialogue was chaired by the Customs Superintendent, Werner Ovalle, who was accompanied by 29 public and private institutions that make up this mechanism of goodwill and joint cooperation.
For the purposes of proper monitoring and compliance, the head of Customs explained the actions carried out to improve the efficiency of the customs service. In detail: customs digital transformation, national action plan for reducing clearance times 2020-2023, "OAS Country" figure, MERCATOR report of the World Customs Organization, promotion of ethics, as well as the Anti-Corruption and Integrity Promotion Program for Customs (A-CPI) of the WCO, among other actions.
It is worth remembering that Guatemala has implemented the Comprehensive Customs Modernization Program (MIAD) 2019-2023, which articulates and unifies efforts as established by the WCO SAFE Regulatory Framework.
The meeting proved to be a valuable platform for consolidating meaningful dialogues that have been taking place within the Guatemalan Customs Service to improve trade in a constantly evolving regional and global scenario.
