The Argentine Government ordered this Friday (04.08.2023) the creation of the Customs Museum. The cultural space will operate in the headquarters building, located in Azopardo 350, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
This is established by the Provision 20/2023, published in the Official Gazette, the text of which reads: "to gather, preserve, safeguard and exhibit to the public, in an appropriate manner, the relics and objects from the past of the customs in its historical development to the present; in order to disseminate to the community the control and oversight functions that the Agency carries out - from its beginnings to the present - and the importance that they represent for our society."
This is a project that is being processed by the current administration of Guillermo Michel, in line with the room established in Gualeguaychú, Entre Ríos Province.
This initiative will cover the history of the institution, which celebrated its 437th anniversary last June. The Argentine Customs has its origins in the times of conquest and colonization, meaning that it pre-existed the Nation.
The construction of the current building, headquarters of the Customs Office, was authorized in 1907, based on the importance that this organization acquired, since the end of the XNUMXth century, in the social development and economic growth of the Republic and as part of the commemorative activities of the first centenary.
Noted for its symmetry, the “Palacio de Aduana” headquarters is the work of architects Eduardo Lanús and Pablo Hary; it was inaugurated in 1910, by the President of the Nation Dr. José Figueroa Alcorta on that occasion.
With a large number of representative decorative elements, such as the moldings showing the coat of arms of the Argentine Republic located above the inscription "Aduana" - on the main façade that looks towards Azopardo Street and Huergo Avenue - the building was declared a national historic monument (Decree No. 1309/2009).
Treasured as a relic, the Customs Museum will be a pleasant journey through the history and activity of the oldest institution in the country.
Aduana News is the first Argentine customs newspaper to launch its digital version. With 20 years of experience, its publications and initiatives aim to provide the most relevant knowledge on customs issues in order to contribute to safe trade in the region.
