Guatemala will take over the Presidency of the Central American Customs Committee in July

Guatemala will assume the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Central American Customs Committee on July 1 for a period of six months, receiving it from Costa Rica, SIECA reported this Friday (18.06.2021/2021/XNUMX), after the third Round of the Central American Customs Union corresponding to the first half of XNUMX was held.

According to the statement from the body responsible for promoting efforts to achieve economic integration in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama,  The authorities shared their scope and agreed on activities to continue developing intense joint work to facilitate trade and strengthen the free movement of goods and services within the region.

In this regard, the following are highlighted: Actions: the Study of Regional Dispatch Times at the borders, the regional strategy for disseminating Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Programs, the functionalities of the Central American Single Declaration (DUCA), Customs Risk Management, the Operational Manual on Good Practices a posteriori, the updating of regional IT development roadmaps for the improvement of customs platforms, among others.

It was also reported that the Members of the Central American Customs Committee thanked Ambassador Melvin Redondo (who made his career in the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Honduras) for the assistance provided during his five-year tenure (2017-2021) as Secretary General of SIECA. He will be replaced by the Salvadoran Ambassador Francisco Alberto Lima Mena.

It should be noted that the Central American Customs Committee is made up of the Customs Directors of the Central American Region and its origin is found in Article 10 of the Agreement on the Central American Customs Tariff Regime of 1997.
