Guatemala strengthens international trade with the signing of an important agreement

La Superintendence of Tax Administration of Guatemala signed this Tuesday (27.10.2020) an agreement with World Basc Organization y Business Alliance for Secure Commerce BASC Guatemala, with the purpose of establishing cooperation ties that contribute to promoting safe international trade through the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program of the Customs Office.

SAT Guatemala has explained that "this agreement is aimed at facilitating the fulfillment of the duties and responsibilities of companies, so that they contribute to the security of the supply chain in international trade."

Along the same lines, the entity in charge of tax collection in Guatemala clarified that "A joint work plan will be developed to promote the Authorized Economic Operator Program (OAS) with WBO Guatemala among its associated companies or those it has trained in accordance with current regulations; as well as providing information of interest on topics related to the experiences of companies that are part of the OAS Program and the international supply chain.

"This agreement represents a benefit for the country through the assurance of the international trade logistics chain, contributing to strengthening the Guatemalan Customs Service, reiterating the commitment to continue working for the country's competitiveness from the responsibilities of the different Customs," highlighted the Superintendent of SAT, Marco Livio Díaz.

The President of BASC Guatemala, Juan Francisco Toruño, and the Superintendent of the Tax Administration, Marco Livio Díaz Reyes, with the participation of the Superintendent of Customs, Werner Ovalle Ramírez, and virtually, the President of International BASC, Fermín Guza, signed the agreement.

Thus, SAT partners with the private sector to take measures to ensure the security of the logistics chain, while at the same time complying with international agreements on trade facilitation, as well as the demands of external users in terms of efficiency, transparency and automation of the Customs Service. This agreement is part of the actions of the Security component of the Comprehensive Customs Modernization Program (MIAD), implemented to promote economic development and competitiveness, both in Guatemala and in the region.
