Within the framework of the XXV Regional Conference of General Directors of Customs, the Authorities of Guatemala and Jamaica signed today (19.05.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) the document of the Action Plan to achieve a Mutual Recognition Arrangement between both countries that have an Authorized Economic Operator Program (OAS).
The aim of this agreement is to strengthen the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programs and offer better benefits to companies that join the AEO Programs of the signatory countries.
According to customs authorities, the Mutual Recognition Arrangement for AEO Programs is a very important issue in trade facilitation.
Mutual recognition consists of recognizing the AEO program of a country and its authorized companies in order to "provide them with benefits related to the streamlining and facilitation of the clearance of goods and the reduction of verifications in order to facilitate the actors authorized as AEO in both countries, strengthening the international trade logistics chain," according to SAT-G.
With the signing of the document, a work agenda has been established that includes the review of the regulations of the national Programs, as well as each country visiting the signatory country to observe and validate the validation processes of the AEO companies.
The Action Plan was signed by the Guatemalan Customs Superintendent, Werner Ovalle, and the Jamaican Customs Commissioner, Velma Rickets Walker.
