Guatemala and Mexico sign agreement to implement joint customs clearance

With the aim of speeding up the transit of products between Guatemala and Mexico, customs authorities signed an agreement that will allow the implementation of the joint customs clearance on the border between both nations.

The legal instrument, signed on May 13th 2023 At the Central Offices of the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), the event was held in follow-up to the Agreement on Mutual Administrative Assistance and Exchange of Information on Customs Matters between the Republic of Guatemala and the United Mexican States of 2019.

According to the official information provided, the initiative will allow "customs personnel to operate a single facility in one of the two countries, respecting autonomy and regulations, under the model of coordinated management".

To this end, the agency stated that the plan will be implemented in the coming months of the year. on the Suchiate II –Tecún Umán II border

This implementation of a Management Control system will allow the simplification of processes in the office, as well as the reduction of waiting times in the service.

The action is part of the SAT-G's Comprehensive Customs Modernization Program (MIAD), which includes the redesign of customs processes, automation and strengthening.
