The Superintendency of Tax Administration of the State of Guatemala (SAT-G) is moving forward with a plan to improve compliance and integrity in foreign trade operations, official sources reported.
According to the SAT-G statement released on Wednesday (15.03.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX), the actions implemented by the authorities respond to the “objective 5 of the Institutional Strategic Plan 2021-2025, related to the comprehensive modernization of the customs and foreign trade service.”
And he described the following actions implemented by SAT-G:
1. Restructuring of the Customs Administration.
2. Strategic articulation of international good practices of the World Customs Organization, the World Trade Organization and other international organizations and Customs Administrations.
- Implementation of the OMA's A-CIP Integrity and Anti-Corruption Promotion Program.
- WCO Revised Kyoto Convention.
- Signing of Mutual Recognition Arrangements (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uruguay).
3. Promotion of ethics:
- Declaration of Ethics and Transparency signed by Central American Customs.
- Implementation of Codes of Ethics in institutions that make up the Public-Private Dialogue and Cooperation Table on Customs Issues and other auxiliaries of the public function.
- Follow-up on customs complaints.
4. Strengthening customs control:
- Implementation of technological processes: X-rays, electronic marking, CCTV closed circuit center.
- Improvements in customs risk management – RILO Central America.
- Reasonable doubt.
5. Strengthening trade facilitation:
- Digital transformation of customs procedures.
- Digital tools for the importer that allow monitoring traceability.
- Digital transformation of the computer system.
- Expansion of the Quality Management System.
“With these results, SAT-G reaffirms its commitment to continue strengthening the customs service, contributing to the strengthening of foreign trade facilitation,” he said.
It is recalled that the Government of Guatemala, through the Ministry of Public Finance, initiated a series of actions in early 1997 aimed at transforming and strengthening the Central American country's tax system. These actions included the creation of the Superintendency of Tax Administration, with the approval of the Congress of the Republic, according to Decree Number 1-98.
