Within the framework of the modernization process of the customs and foreign trade service of Guatemala, the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) presented this Monday (24.01.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) a electronic tool that will provide traceability, control and facilitation of commercial operations covered by Decree 29/89 of the Congress of the Republic.
It should be noted that the purpose of this provision by the Guatemalan government is to support those investments that promote the entry of foreign currency into the country, as well as those that increase the use of labor, thereby dynamically reactivating the country's economy. Thus, the law creates a special customs regime, which provides companies with a more fluid transit of the raw materials they import, in order to then carry out machining operations on them and export them to other countries.
Along these lines, the SAT explained that the innovation “has been developed in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and the Integrated System of the Office of Regimes and Active Improvement (OPA) to allow entrepreneurs to confirm in an easy, fast and secure way the reception of raw materials entered into their company to subsequently manage a process of discharge of current account before the OPA, maintaining control of the operations and avoiding bad practices of people involved in the import process.”
Particularly, the Customs Superintendent, Werner Ovalle Ramírez, stressed that this electronic tool will benefit to 1050 active companies in the Office of Regimes and Active Improvement under maquila modality. He reported that in 2021, imports under this maquila modality correspond to 8,4% of the total of import operations, representing a FOB value of USD 23.8 billion.
The free-to-use tool is now available Available at https://seadexweb.export.com.gt. There, the legal representative must name the company authorized to manage the reception of goods and successfully process their current account discharges. “Otherwise, there could be problems in the process,” warned the SAT.
The implementation of this tool that will provide traceability, control and facilitation of commercial operations covered by Decree 29/89 will come into force on February 1, 2022, the Guatemalan authorities announced.
The activities were presented by the Superintendent of Tax Administration, Marco Livio Días Reyes; the Vice Minister of Economy, Lisandro Bolaños; the General Director of Agexport, Amador Carballido and the Superintendent of Customs, Werner Ovalle Ramírez.
