The Government of Guatemala presented this Tuesday (08.08.2022) the “Electronic Franchise” project, which aims Automate the process of applications for all those goods that by law are exempt from paying import taxes (DAI and VAT).
At a press conference, the head of the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT), Marco Livio Díaz, together with the Superintendent of Customs, Werner Ovalle Ramírez, explained that the management of the Electronic Franchise "is completely online through the virtual Agency with 24/7 access."
The initiative offers benefits such as electronic notifications, real-time tracking, reduced response times, and a reduction in response time from 10 to 2 days, which leads to lower logistics costs.
This action related to the digitalization of the document process is part of the fulfillment of the strategic objectives of the SAT's Comprehensive Strategic Plan 2021-2025 to comprehensively modernize the Guatemalan Customs Service.
Marco Livio Díaz also clarified that the electronic franchise is used to facilitate the trade of all those medical products, food and others that are needed in times of emergency or humanitarian crisis.
Aduana News is the first Argentine customs newspaper to launch its digital version. With 20 years of experience, its publications and initiatives aim to provide the most relevant knowledge on customs issues in order to contribute to safe trade in the region.
