Guatemala adopts the Declaration for Travelers electronically

The Government of Guatemala continues to simplify formalities with the use of technology. In the press release, the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT-G) stated that the action is a inter-institutional effort carried out with the Superintendency of Banks and the Guatemalan Migration Institute.

During the launch, the Customs Superintendent, Werner Ovalle explained that this formality is articulated with the commitments established in the Chicago Convention (treaty on International Civil Aviation), as well as in the Revised Kyoto Convention of the World Customs Organization. Thus, it has the Regional Approval of the COMIECO (29 / 07 / 2023).

The official stressed that the joint effort will seek to comprehensively modernize the customs and foreign trade services, as well as guarantee and maintain immigration controls.

He also detailed the and advantages that the Electronic Declaration will offer to travelers and public institutions. In detail:

Travellers

Additionally, the official said that the electronic declaration of the traveler has begun with a implementation process and adaptation in the La Aurora International Airport (July 18 – phase 1), to continue at the “Mundo Maya” International Airport (September – phase 2), maritime customs (November – phase 3), and land customs (December – phase 4).

Thus, Guatemala joins Honduras and El Salvador, the first Central American countries to have adopted the electronic traveler declaration, in favor of productivity and economic development.
