Uruguay exports grow 10,1% year-on-year in April

-

Uruguay's exports amounted to 864 million dollars in April, an increase of 10,1 percent compared to the same month in 2018, thanks to the positive performance of shipments of cellulose, soybeans and beef, the government entity Uruguay XXI reported on Thursday (2.5.2019).

According to a report by the Uruguayan Institute for the Promotion of Foreign Trade, foreign sales have thus left behind five consecutive months of decline.

Export products

Beef It was the main export item in the previous month with sales of 165 million dollars, followed by cellulose ($163 million) and the soybean (138 million dollars).

Meanwhile, exports of rice, dairy products and livestock were those that had the greatest negative impact on exports in the month.

From January to April 2019, exports have accumulated a decrease of 0,8 percent compared to the same period in 2018, totaling 2.895 billion dollars.

In 2018, Uruguay's exports of goods stagnated, totaling 9.088 billion after registering a marginal year-on-year increase of 0,4 percent, with cellulose, beef and dairy products as the main products.

Export destinations

China continues to lead export destinations with a total of US$183 million and a 32% share. The amount exported increased by 29% year-on-year, mainly due to the 52% increase in frozen beef exports (US$33 million more). Wool also experienced a considerable increase, with US$7,6 million more exported in April 2019.

Brazil It is in second place with a total of US$ 104 million, a share of 18% and a negative interannual variation of 2%. This is largely related to the 45% decrease in the amount of powdered milk exported, which meant 9 million less in the total exported to Brazil.

United States continued with a total of 47 million dollars in April 2019, a figure 25% higher than that of April last year. This is explained by a higher amount of frozen beef exported (39%).

Argentina and Türkiye They managed to place fourth and fifth in the ranking of export destinations, despite a negative year-on-year variation of 5% and 46% respectively.
