Experts shared initiatives for inclusive trade in Latin America

-

At an event, a group of experts shared the best initiatives to incorporate the gender perspective in trade facilitation reforms in Latin America, the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) reported through its social network Twitter.

The seminar, held this Friday (11.92.2022) virtually, is part of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development learning course (UNCTAD) on the gender perspective in trade facilitation reforms.

On this day – inaugurated by Pamela Ugaz, Economic Affairs Officer of the Trade Section of UNCTAD, participated Johanna Törnström, Project Officer, Capacity Building Directorate, World Customs Organization; Edna Ramirez, Founder and Director of GoBizGlobal, also Professor at UDG and CUCosta (Mexico); Alicia Frohmann, Senior Consultant at ECLAC and Jady Valaldares, Director of Trade Facilitation at SIECA.

In this way, the international experts provided the opportunity for representatives of Latin American countries (Bolivia, Ecuador, Honduras and Peru) better understand how trade facilitation and gender issues are interrelated and why it is essential to discuss trade facilitation from a gender perspective.

Overcome obstacles

Exploring and understanding the obstacles faced by women traders is crucial to identifying policies and processes that can reduce or eliminate barriers and help them become more prosperous and efficient in their work.

The UN trade body's webinar did just that. The meeting identified Latin American cross-border traders, determined the specific challenges they face, and showed how the World Trade Organization's Trade Facilitation Agreement can help address some of these issues.
