United States extends cooperation to Paraguay to improve agricultural trade

-

The United States Embassy in Paraguay granted this Wednesday (31.05.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) to the National Customs Directorate (DNA) a two-year extension of the cooperation granted by the Agricultural Systems and Technology Project to Facilitate Trade (T-FAST).

The extension was granted through the signing of an agreement between Daniel Oviedo, representative of T FAST Paraguay, and Julio Fernández, head of the DNA, as announced by the customs administration on its social network Twitter.

T-FAST is a cooperation project that aims to provide technical assistance to simplify, modernize and harmonize the processes for the export, import, and transit of agricultural products in Paraguay.

This project, funded by the Food for Progress program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), began to be implemented in the South American country in 2020.

Together with the public and private sectors, and the National Trade Facilitation Committee, the T-FAST project will reduce non-tariff barriers to trade, resulting in a 14 percent reduction in the cost of trade in agricultural products, the official source estimates.

The initiative thus collaborates with Paraguay to overcome the asymmetries caused by its status as a Landlocked Developing Country, which makes it difficult for national agricultural products to access global value chains.
