The Argentine Government formalized the new restrictions for the commercialization of meat abroad and the initiative of the elaboration of a livestock plan, through the Decree 408 / 2021.
The regulations, published this Wednesday (23.06.2021), banned the sale of 12 cuts abroad. It also limited export quotas to 50%., but excepted cuts such as the Hilton quota, 481 to the European Union and the Quota of 20.000 annual tons to the United States.
In its preamble, the Government states that the measure is “In order to guarantee access to a food that is part of culture, custom, and is one of the pillars of food security for Argentines, it is necessary to adopt measures with the aim of reducing the impact of rising prices.”
Thus, the National Executive Branch suspended exports until December 31, 12 cuts of the following meat products of bovine origin:
- Whole cattle.
- Half carcasses.
- Forequarter with bone, even incomplete.
- Hindquarter with bone, even incomplete.
- Incomplete half carcasses with bone.
- Roasted with or without bone.
- Skirt.
- Matambre.
- Roast lid.
- square.
- Palette.
- Empty.
On the other hand, the regulations establish that non-capped goods corresponding to fresh or refrigerated beef and frozen beef may be exported up to a monthly quota that may not exceed 50%.
The quota system is in effect until August 31, but according to the Decree published today in the Official Gazette, it can be extended until December 31, 2021.
The provisions of this Decree shall enter into force immediately.
