-

Through the Decree of Necessity and Urgency 462/2022, The national government decided to increase the 50% in the volume of imports of diesel oil and gasoil, in order to ensure the operation of the electrical system

The regulations, published this Monday (08.08.2022) in the Official Gazette, expanded andThe volume authorized to be imported exempt from the tax on liquid fuels and the carbon dioxide tax is 1,5 million cubic meters, bringing the authorized volume for the whole of 2022 to 4 million cubic meters. (4.000.000 m³).

This volume refers to those imports of diesel oil and their delivery to the domestic market, carried out during 2022, in order to compensate for peaks in demand "that could not be satisfied by local production, destined to supply the electricity generation market," according to the decree.

The authorized quota will be distributed in accordance with the regulations issued by the Government in this regard, which must contain an indication of the authorized volumes per company and supply conditions, according to the official text.

The Casa Rosada justified the increase in import volumes by pointing out that the projection of diesel consumption for electricity generation for the rest of the country "is higher than the remaining volume, due to the low contribution of the water basins and the greater use of the firm transportation capacity of natural gas to supply priority demand."

Consequently, he indicated that it is necessary to increase the total annual volume of gasoil and diesel oil that Cammesa is authorized to import with tax exemptions, "in order to guarantee the normal operation of the Argentine electrical system during the winter period, as well as due to the requirement to manage the acquisitions of these fuels in the international market with sufficient advance notice to ensure their availability for the system."
