The delegations of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay approved important instruments in the 59th Ordinary Meeting of the Common Market Council (CMC) which was held this Friday (17.12.2021) virtually, reported the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, acting Pro Tempore President of MERCOSUR, Carlos Franco França; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Culture of Argentina, Santiago Andrés Cafiero; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Euclides Acevedo, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Francisco Bustillo.
On the occasion, the The National Coordinator of the Brazilian GMC, Pedro Miguel da Costa e Silva, gave a report on the activities carried out during the Brazilian Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR, highlighting the progress made during the semester.
The adoption of decisions extending the validity of the Special Regimes that meet the expectations of the productive sectors of the States Parties, constituting a factor of competitiveness.
He also referred to the importance of achieving the gradual and progressive opening of our borders cwith our neighboring countries and highlighted the priority axes of the Pro Tempore Presidency of Paraguay that begins this Friday, December 17, for a period of six months.
On this occasion, important instruments were approved, such as the Agreement for the prevention and fight against corruption in international trade and investments of MERCOSUR, the Framework Agreement for reciprocal recognition and granting of license plates for the temporary professional practice of surveying, agronomy, architecture, geology and engineering in MERCOSUR.
In addition, the amendment to the Montevideo Protocol on Trade in Services of MERCOSUR, for the incorporation of the sectoral annexes on Postal Services, Telecommunications Services and National Regulations and the Framework Agreement for the Recognition of Studies, Titles and Diplomas in Higher Technical-Professional, Technological, Artistic and Teacher Training and Education. In addition, the following were approved: eight Decisions and two Recommendations.
It is specified that the Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez received the rotating presidency of MERCOSUR today from the hands of his Brazilian counterpart, Jair Bolsonaro, at the summit held online, and in which the leaders of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, and Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, also participated.
On this occasion, the president stressed the willingness to continue working together and in a coordinated manner during the next six months, during which time Paraguay will assume the leadership of MERCOSUR.
