AFIP's dog training center will train customs officers in the region

-

The canine training center of the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) will begin to provide training to the customs services of South American countries, the AFIP announced in a statement on Thursday (20.01.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX).

The establishment of the AFIP agency in the Buenos Aires town of Boulogne was authorized by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to offer training to guides and detection dogs from the entire region.

«The recognition and certification of the World Customs Organization confirms the professionalism of the training center», said the head of the DGA, Silvia Traverso, at the end of the virtual event where the authorities of the international organization participated.

In this regard, he added: "We have a centre of excellence that will now begin to collaborate in the training of guides and dogs from all over our region."

The international recognition of the WCO was signed virtually on Wednesday by Traverso and the Secretary General of the WCO, Kunio Mikuriya.

The initiative enables reciprocity in specialized canine training with other countries, maintaining its own training programs, but with the necessary flexibility to adapt and meet the training and capacity building demands of members of the region.

Certification promotes the development of binomials (guide and dog pairs) of operational quality at a regional level, based on best management practices, care and respect for animals.

Through play, these dogs become suitable for use in procedures to detect currency, narcotics and undeclared merchandise.

El DGA training center, pioneer in South America in the training of pairs for inspection and control tasks, it is composed of 68 kennels for general accommodation and rest, six outdoor training and recreation pens, and a covered shed with a training track.

It also has a Veterinary clinic with six hospitalization rooms, X-ray room, ultrasound equipment, laboratory with equipment to process samples and complementary studies, and a complete operating room with inhalation anesthesia equipment.
