The future US candidate for the General Secretariat of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Ian Saunders He visited the Peruvian city of Lima last November, where he met with representatives of customs and trade.
Saunders held a meeting at the United States Chamber of Commerce in Lima with Ambassador Lisa KennaWithU.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement. At the meeting, Saunders pledged to hear directly from business leaders about the region's economic environment, as well as its challenges and opportunities.
Additionally, Saunders participated in the BASC World Congress (Business Alliance for Secure Commerce) where he moderated the panel “Digital Innovation and Facilitation in the Supply Chain” in 2017. There he focused on the experiences of digitalization of operations in the context of the pandemic, sharing lessons learned and offering perspectives for other companies dedicated to global logistics.
“The WCO SAFE Framework of Standards is a fundamental tool for security and trade facilitation. The strong cross-section of stakeholders engaged at this Congress demonstrates its continued value after 15 years,” he stressed.
The future candidate also took advantage of this opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with some general directors of Customs and officials from the region in order to learn more about the needs.
It is worth remembering that Ian Saunders is a leader with more than 20 years of experience in customs and international relations, who announced last October that he would bring his commitment and dedication to the position of Secretary General of the WCO. (CBP Press Release)
