Ecuador and Panama strengthen customs strategies for safe trade

At the Panamanian headquarters of the National Customs Authority (ANA) the first joint coordination meeting between the Authorized Economic Operator of Panama and the Republic of Ecuador, official sources reported.

The ANA indicated in a statement released this Monday (25.09.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) that the meeting had "the objective was to present el audit process report applied by the Panamanian customs, for the certification of companies as Authorized Economic Operators. This step is essential for the signing of a Mutual Recognition Agreement between both entities.

During this meeting, the signing of the audit report was formalized, which was carried out by officials of the Ecuadorian Customs between September 18 and 21. According to the ANA, this audit process focused on the evaluation of procedures implemented by Panamanian Customs.

The document was prepared in accordance with the guidelines established by the World Customs Organization (OMA), within the framework of the program SAFEThe primary objective of this certification is to strengthen security in the international logistics chain, particularly with regard to the handling of exports to Ecuador.

The signing of the report was carried out by María Alejandra Calderón, Director of International Customs Relations of the National Customs Service of Ecuador, and Eric Julio R., who heads the OAS Office at the ANA. The Director General of Customs of Panama, Tayra Barsallo, was also present at this meeting.

It should be remembered that the Customs of Ecuador and Panama subscribed, in 2021, a action plan to develop an evaluation process on the implementation and management mechanism of a Mutual Recognition Agreement of the OAS, which will streamline foreign trade operations between both countries.
