Two international organizations have expanded their partnership to boost e-commerce

-

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) have expanded their partnership to facilitate international trade, particularly e-commerce in developing countries, through improved trade data exchanges.

According to UNCTAD, with this alliance Air cargo messaging standards will be integrated into the Automated Customs Data System  (ASYCUDA), which will allow for more efficient management of e-commerce shipments and facilitate access to IATA's connectivity and partner identification platform.

The initiative will allow for the availability of a more efficient processing of air freight shipments to the 100 countries implementing the latest version of ASYCUDA World.

Additional operational information, such as flight schedules and other data that can assist customs officials in their risk assessments, may also be exchanged.

“Global standards enable accurate information and effective risk assessments. This in turn promotes greater compliance and will contribute to a secure supply chain, which should give authorities the confidence to modernize processes,” said Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President of Operations, Safety and Security.
