Costa Rica: Customs extends opening hours after computer incidents

Days after an attack affected some computer systems of the Costa Rican government, the authorities decided to extend the hours of operation of the Customs offices in Santamaria, Central, Caldera and Limon this weekend (April 24 and 25), in order to speed up the import and export processes of goods, the Ministry of Finance stated in a statement. Care will be provided virtually, from 8 am to 4 pm, Anadio.

The authorities also reported that in order to normalize the procedures for the entry, exit, transit and nationalization of goods, They will enable tax warehouses for the reception of cargo from transport units in transit, as well as for the clearance of imports.

The Government assured that, for export and import procedures, last Friday, April 22, issued the statement DGA-015-2022 which authorizes and instructs shipping lines to submit all export declarations in a grouped manner, without prior authorization from Customs.

The Ministry of Finance clarified that any necessary control may be carried out afterwards.

"In the specific case of the Caldera customs office, and given the saturation of the port, the direct transfer of the container units to the temporary parking lots authorized by the General Directorate of Customs is ordered," the statement said.

The agency stressed that the measures are in addition to the contingency plans issued by the National Customs Service this week, to assist users and mitigate the effects of the temporary suspension of the Ministry of Finance's systems.

The Central American Customs Committee also activated a contingency plan to ensure trade flows in the region, after Costa Rica disabled the TICA platform, through which exports and imports of national production are carried out.
