The Director of the National Customs Service of Ecuador, Carolina Ríos; the Deputy National Superintendent of Customs of Peru, Marilú Llerena Aybar, and Diego Caicedo, Secretary General of the CAN, were present, in addition to representatives of the countries of the bloc. In the discussion Emphasis was placed on the processes and services provided by the WCO Regional Laboratory to facilitate safe trade, contribute to fair tax and customs collection and combat illicit trafficking of goods..

The Sunat Peru central laboratory, which was built in compliance with the recommendations of the WCO “Customs Laboratory Guide”, has modern infrastructure, equipment and properly trained professionals who will be able to share their experiences as they are qualified as a leading team in the application of controls in the region.

It should be noted that this type of laboratory uses analytical methods for goods that have been imported or exported outside the country; this characteristic differentiates them from those that only have commercial purposes and specialize in the analysis of certain types of samples.

The initiative is part of the regional cooperation and the commitment made by Sunat Peru to continue working with the WCO and the customs administrations of the region, contributing to the facilitation of safe trade and detecting dangerous goods or those that attempt to circumvent controls based on international norms and standards.
