The Andean Community (CAN) and the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) agreed provide mutual administrative cooperation which will facilitate the application of the provisions on cumulation of origin by countries in both blocs, within the framework of trade agreements with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
According to the joint note signed by the head of the Andean organization, Jorge Hernando Pedraza and the general secretary of SIECA, Francisco Lima on March 31, 2022, the two regional mechanisms undertake to facilitate the information required by the competent authorities of the Andean and Central American countries, in the Certification and verification of origin of materials to be used in the accumulation.
“The accumulation of origin allows countries to make better use of trade agreements and expand their exportable supply,” said the CAN Secretary General.
"In the case of the Andean countries, by using materials produced by Central American countries in goods exported to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and similarly, for Central American countries, by using materials from the Andean countries," he added.
It should be noted that the South American countries that make up the CAN are Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Meanwhile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama make up the SIECA.- (CAN Press Release)
