The Customs Committee of Central America approved this Thursday (11.08.2022) in its first ordinary session, a Declaration of Ethics and Transparency of Customs Administrations from the region, according to official sources.
The session was led by the Guatemalan Customs Minister Werner Ovalle, as President Pro Tempore, who noted that "It is essential to continue investing in the issues of ethics and transparency at a regional level with the leadership and vision of the Customs directors of Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama and Nicaragua within the framework of the meetings of the Central American Customs Committee."
The customs authorities thus confirmed their high level of commitment to promoting integrity and fighting corruption, including the development of ethics.
The following directors and respective representatives participated in the regular meeting: Gerardo Bolaños (Costa Rica), Samathy Martinez (El Salvador), Rosa Mariana Rios Munguia (Honduras), Eddy Medrano Soto (Nicaragua) and Tayra Barsallo (Panama); also, representatives of the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), as a group.
On the same Thursday it was announced that Work agenda of the Central American Customs Committee which will involve the presentation and approval of the work plan and calendar for the second half of 2022; the report of results and progress achieved by the technical groups: Regulatory, Risk, Authorized Economic Operator, Dispatch Time Study (ETD), Central American Commission on the Customs Value of Goods, and the Drafting Commission of the Central American Uniform Customs Code (CAUCA) and its Regulations (RECAUCA).
The SIECA report on field visits to border posts subject to monitoring within the framework of the actions derived from the Dispatch Time Study (ETD) will also be discussed; the status of work on risk and intellectual property at the border; the status of negotiations on the Regulations of the Customs Committee and the identification of improvements to regional contingency plans.
This Friday, the second and final day, deliberations are expected to continue in order to advance the coordinated work and consolidation of the Central American integration process, the central theme of the committee.
