The Economic Criminal Judge Marcelo Aguinsky summoned 72 Customs officials to appear at a hearing called in the context of a smuggling case. The magistrate issued a notice to the General Director of the agency, Juan José Gómez Centurión -in the next few days he will go to the Banco Nación- to arrange the means to notify the summoned employees.
In addition, he was given a period of 72 hours to inform the court of the result of the measure entrusted to him. The officials involved are said to have intervened in the loading and removal of containers with merchandise that are the subject of Aguinsky's investigation.
The hearing is to make available to the summoned customs employees the evidence collected so far, so that they can become aware of the evidence in the case. In its resolution, the Judge Aguinsky said that this measure seeks to preserve the right of defense of those who are accused in a case whose investigation is extremely complex.
The magistrate argued that such complexity, combined with the fact that the process is in the investigation stage - which is preparatory to the trial itself - makes it necessary to speed up the process.
Aguinsky noted that the prosecutor's opinion has shown that the The summoned officials allegedly ignored their control duties at their own expense, to take specific action in the facts under investigation. At the hearing, the customs officers summoned may clarify facts and provide evidence that, in their opinion, may be useful for their defense, the progress of the case and the determination of responsibilities.
La The simultaneous hearing to be attended by the 72 Customs officials was called for next November 17 at 10 a.m. in the Human Rights Hall located on the ground floor of the Palace of Courts.
The case was initiated by a complaint from Procelac and is investigating the alleged smuggling of textile imports.
