China became the main export destination of the Andean Community (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) in 2021: it represents 19,3% of its total sales compared to 18,5% of the United States, 11,8% of the European Union, and 6,4% of the CAN Member Countries themselves.
The report “Foreign Trade Statistics on Goods 2021” of the Andean Community (CAN), released on June 24, also indicates that the top ten products exported by the bloc to the world were crude petroleum oils, copper minerals, raw forms of gold for non-monetary use, fresh "Cavendish Valery" bananas, bituminous coal, among others.
Regarding the bloc's imports, the report says that "these also originated, firstly, in China with a 25,1% share, followed by the United States with 20,2%, the European Union with 11,6%, Mercosur with 10,5%, and in fifth place the Member Countries of the CAN, with a 6,1% share of the total."
It ensures that among the main products imported from outside the EU are diesel, mobile phones, light oils (light) from petroleum or bituminous minerals, gasoline without tetraethyl lead, for aviation engines, hard yellow corn, except for sowing, automatic machines for data treatment or processing, digital, portable, weighing less than or equal to 10 kg, which are made up of, at least, a central processing unit, a keyboard and a display.
Despite this phenomenon, the report states that, in 2021, the United States was the first destination for exports of manufactured products from the Andean countries with a share of 19,6%, followed by the CAN countries with 12,7% and China with 10,6%.
According to CAN, the results of the statistical publication “Foreign Trade in Goods 2021” were prepared with information provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) of Bolivia, the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) of Colombia, the Central Bank of Ecuador, and the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) of Peru.
