China authorized the export of Argentine blueberries

-

The national government reported that China made official, through the Department of Plant and Animal Quarantine Supervision of the General Administration of Customs (GACC), the permit for the entry of fresh blueberries from Argentina.

The market for fresh blueberries in the Asian country is now open, following the positive results obtained after the audit visit that took place between 15 and 25 September 2018.

Blueberry from Argentina

Argentina has been exporting blueberries for 20 years, and is one of the main players in the global market. Being located in the Southern Hemisphere, the country has the advantage of having an off-season crop, which allows it to supply products during periods of low production in the countries of the Northern Hemisphere.

Blueberries are used in China as an ingredient for food preparation and for health products. They are also consumed fresh, but to a lesser extent.

2017 data

95% of the total production of Argentine blueberries is exported as fresh fruit, reserving approximately 2% for the local market (fresh fruit consumption) and only 3% for industrialization for the production of juices, jams and frozen pastes for ice cream/yogurt and pastries.

En 2017, the main destination markets were: USA, UK, Netherlands and Germany. They participated with the 60,91%, 13,03%, 7,61% and 5,44% of the total exported value, respectively.
