Counterfeit merchandise intercepted at the Iquique Free Trade Zone

-

In an operation in Chile, inspectors from the National Customs Service seized a multimillion-dollar shipment of Counterfeit sneakers, slippers and cell phone parts in the gauging yard of the Iquique Free Trade Zone. The merchandise came from China and was intended to enter the free trade system to then be reshipped to Chile and Paraguay, official sources reported.

The Chilean Customs statement, released this Friday (22.04.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX), stated that the procedure responds to an alert generated by the Customs Risk Analysis Unit, from which a pair of containers that left the Chinese port of Ningbo bound for Iquique were identified.

El Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, explained that due to different variables, the containers were selected and the physical inspection was carried out in the gauging yard of the Free Trade Zone. In this way, 12 boxes with 300 pairs of sports shoes that emulate models and designs of the Nike brand were found; 120 imitation New Balance shoes; 29 boxes with 14 protective back sheets for cell phones that imitate the iPhone model; and 500 packages that contained 296 pairs of Hello Kitty, Mario Bros, Toy Story and Ultraman slippers.

Molina Silva said that “a simple analysis of the products and their packaging determined that they were counterfeit products, so the shipment was suspended and the legal representatives of the brands involved were notified.”

The items, whose commercial value exceeds $100 million pesos (USD 100 thousand), were intended to enter the Iquique Free Trade Zone to then be reshipped to Chile and Paraguay.
