Inspectors from the Chilean National Customs Service detected and intercepted 27 kilos 970 grams of marijuana that were hidden inside a Bolivian truck loaded with soybeans. The procedure took place at the Chungará border complex (northeast) and the transporter was placed in preventive detention.
The Regional Director of the Arica Customs, Fernando Rousseau Amigo, indicated that during the inspection work on the cargo entering Chile, the following was identified: manipulation of the seals that protected a truck with Bolivian license platesAfter that, a special inspection was arranged and thanks to the support of a canine team, a bag of drugs and a sack were detected that were hidden under the load and that contained 92 black packages of drugs.

“This procedure is in addition to the one carried out in Chacalluta, which allowed us to intercept 63 kilos of ketamine also in a truck, which shows different types of concealment and contamination of international cargo with drugs,” explained the customs officer, who added that “thanks to the use of risk analysis, non-invasive technology and canine teams, we maintain strict control at the border crossings enabled for cargo and thus provide security to the logistics chain.”

The arrest was carried out at the Arica Guarantee Court and was led by Judge Juan Araya Contreras, who after hearing the formalization of the Public Ministry decreed the legal arrest of the truck driver and ordered a 90-day investigation period.
The precautionary measure of preventive detention of the accused was also instructed, which was appealed and finally upheld by decision of the Court of Appeals.
