The Regional Customs Directorate of Coquimbo and the National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SernamEG) have joined forces on Wednesday (22.05.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) to promote the Good Labor Practices with Gender Equality Program (BPLEG).
The Chilean National Customs Service explained in a statement that the BPLEG Program aims to contribute to the reduction of inequalities and gender gaps through the mission of achieving substantive cultural changes in the work of labor organizations.
For this reason, the Regional Customs Directorate “marks a significant milestone” by becoming the first customs institution at national level to actively participate in the program, the organization said.
"We know that both public and private institutions face a variety of gaps and barriers that prevent women from working in equal conditions and that is why we are starting with them a path, which we hope will be very fruitful, to improve the conditions in which women enter the labor market and especially in Customs, which is usually a traditionally masculinized work space," explained the Regional Director of SernamEG, Priscilla Olivares Verasay.
This achievement is also framed within the Gender Equality Policy of the National Customs Service, in force since the end of 2022, reflecting the institutional commitment to establish gender-equal management.
About, Jorge Hernández Real, Regional Director of Customs, he mentioned “we set ourselves this challenge, based on the specific needs of our service to grow, advance and develop these issues, to educate and make it transversal in the organization, not only focused on women, this has to do with people.”
“It was mentioned that in the photos from the past of this Customs Office and of all Customs Offices nationwide, the presence of men predominated, but not today. Just look at what we are as a region, where we have a staff strengthened by the incorporation of women into decision-making positions, women who lead,” she added.
The implementation of the BPLEG model promotes concrete measures to eradicate gender gaps and barriers in employment, encouraging the adoption of tools such as Chilean Standard 3262, on gender equality and the reconciliation of work, family and personal life.
