In order to follow up on the Central American agenda, Panama assumed this Friday (17.12.2021) the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Economic Integration (COMIECO) in a face-to-face and virtual ceremony, held in the city of Antigua Guatemala.
On the occasion, the Minister of Economy of Guatemala, Antonio Malouf, highlighted the actions carried out in the second half of 2021, such as the acceleration of the establishment of the Customs Union that allows the free circulation of goods, greater facilitation of trade, and the strengthening of the Central American Common Market.
The authority also highlighted the advances in digitalization such as Central American Digital Trade Platform and the analysis of customs procedures at the border as a result of the Regional Dispatch Time Study.
At the end of the session, Guatemala handed over the Pro Tempore Presidency to Panama, which will exercise the mandate for the next six months of 2022 and will be responsible for fulfilling the agenda established in Central America.
It should be noted that the Council of Ministers of Central American Economic Integration is responsible for the coordination, harmonization, convergence or unification of the economic policies of the countries in the region, in order to gradually achieve the economic union of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
