-

The Data Observatory of the Ministry of Agroindustry of the province of Buenos Aires highlighted the incorporation of South Korea into the export destinations of Argentine barley. It joins the main markets such as Saudi Arabia, which concentrates 39% of exports; Brazil, 17% and Colombia, 11%.

Buenos Aires, a great opportunity

They also highlight that this is a great opportunity for the province of Buenos Aires, since it has the 97% of national production, which is concentrated in the southeastern area of Buenos Aires and part of the southwest, mainly in the districts of Tres Arroyos, Coronel Dorrego, Necochea, Lobería and Tandil.

As for the production of brewing barley, which is industrialized in malting plants, the province has the 65% processing capacity of all the country's malt houses. In this sense, malt production has grown in recent years, due to the continued domestic consumption of beer and international demand for its main production input.

The last campaign closed with a production volume of 3,5 million tons, 19% above the 2017/18 campaign; while the province's barley exports in 2017 were 2,3 million tons.

Leonardo Sarquís, head of the Buenos Aires Agroindustry portfolio, highlighted that "97% of Argentina's barley is produced here, with the best genetics in the world, the product of a Very good public-private interaction".

"Added to this is the fact that contracts between producers and malt houses are growing, with a lot of job creation," added Sarquís.
