Argentina: Forestar 2030 platform launched

On the occasion of the celebration of World Environment Day, the national Government presented ForestAR 2030, an inter-ministerial strategy developed together with key sectors to generate the growth of a sustainable forest economyle in Argentina. 

The launch, held at the Government House on Tuesday (5.6.2018), was headed by the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Sergio Bergman, together with his counterparts from Agroindustry, Luis Miguel Etchevehere; from Education, Alejandro Finocchiaro; and the Secretary of Interministerial Coordination of the Cabinet Office, Mario Quintana.

"I welcome the Forestar 2030 initiative, this inter-ministerial platform that will allow us to work together towards the goal of being a country with a better environment, with more investment and improved employment. The Argentine Forest Industry It involves more than 100 thousand direct jobs and around 7000 SMEs are involved. of different levels of wood transformation. If the sector grows, this can be multiplied, generating more work for all Argentines," said Etchevehere, who was accompanied by the chief of staff, Santiago Del Solar, and the national director of Forestry Industrial Development, Nicolás Laharrague.

During the event, the officials signed a letter of intent and collaborative work by which they agreed to join forces to promote the sustainable forestry industry in their different areas of responsibility. They also committed to position the country within the international forestry contextal. It should be noted that the initiative, led by the national Environment portfolio, is also promoted by the Ministries of Agroindustry, Production, Social Development, Labor and Education of the Nation, with the collaboration of The Nature Conservancy Argentina (TNC).

"Forestar 2030 is a project for all Argentines, a national and federal platform, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, "This is already a joint effort and a global commitment," said Bergman. "We have to translate the problem of climate change into an opportunity; the promotion of a multi-effect economy, based on communication and education regarding the ecosystemic benefits of the forest and the wood value chain, investment plans, the generation of new businesses and the creation of jobs," he added.
