Buenos Aires was elected to head the Executive Committee of the Inter-American Committee on Ports of the Organization of American States (CIP-OAS) for the period 2018-2020, reported Puerto Buenos Aires.
This election took place during the work of the XI Ordinary Meeting of the CIP-OAS, which was held in Mexico City, from August 1 to 3.
This is the "only permanent inter-American governmental forum that brings together port authorities from all member countries of the Inter-American Committee on Ports of the Organization of American States (CIP-OAS)," the text says.
There, representatives of the Port of Buenos Aires met with multiple public and private port authorities, under the motto “Sustainable Management for Port Competitiveness”, where the advances in port transport in Argentina were presented to port representatives from our continent.
Unanimous choice
In the encounter, by unanimous election of the member countries, Gonzalo Mórtola, Buenos Aires Port Authority, assumed the presidence of the Inter-American Committee on Ports for the period 2018-2020 with an opening speech in which he highlighted the management achievements of the national port sector and the prospects as a federal port for promoting the competitiveness of all national ports and the regional work of the sector.
After 20 years, the General Administration of Ports SE, in recognition of its federal work, assumes the role of representative of Argentina before said Commission, a task that was previously carried out by the Undersecretariat of Ports and Navigable Waterways.
Following the election, the Comptroller of the Port of Buenos Aires, Gonzalo Mórtola, highlighted: “It is a great honor to assume this new role representing our country. It is It is important for Argentina to recognize and show confidence by this international organization that brings together the main port actors of the American Continent. We are convinced that port activity must be based on cooperation, dialogue and teamwork and above all on transparency.”
