Brazil ends 2023 becoming the ninth largest economy in the world

Brazil will end 2023 as the world's ninth largest economy, according to data released on Tuesday (19.12.2023) by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

With GDP growth forecast at 3,1 percent this year, Brazil will have a nominal GDP of $2,13 trillion, which will put it in the top 10 economies in the world, surpassing Canada, with an estimated GDP of $2,12 trillion.

Last year, Brazil ranked eleventh, and according to the IMF, it could move up one position to become the eighth largest economy in the world by 2026, with an estimated GDP of $2,476 trillion.

While the IMF estimates that the United States, China and Germany remained the world's largest economies, it still expects the global economy to slow this year, growing 3 percent from 3,5 percent in 2022. It also predicts a 2,9 percent increase for 2023.

For Brazil, the international organization forecasts economic growth of 1,5 percent next year.
