Within the framework of the customs digital transformation, Guatemalan authorities signed this Tuesday (09.05.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) an inter-institutional agreement aimed at the implementation of the Maritime Single Window (VUMAR), starting January 2024.
According to official information, such an instrument was signed between the Superintendency of Tax Administration, the Ministries of National Defense; Public Health and Social Assistance; Agriculture, Livestock and Food and the Guatemalan Migration Institute, with support and technical assistance from the Global Alliance.
The Maritime Single Window is relevant for the streamlining and optimization of processes. SAT said that the VUMAR will allow the electronic reception of documentation and risk analysis for vessels at the time of their arrival, stay and departure from the National Port System, through a automated platform which will offer, among other benefits, the strengthening of controls and security through risk analysis, as well as the reduction of logistics times and costs.

In addition, the agency noted that the action is in compliance with international commitments acquired as a country related to the entry into force of the Convention to facilitate international maritime traffic (FAL-65) of the International Maritime Organization IMO (Decree Law Number 119-82 and Government Agreement Number 596-82); as well as the Agreement on Trade Facilitation of the World Trade Organization (Government Agreement Number 1-2017) and Pillar III of the Regulatory Framework SAFE of the World Customs Organization; and according to actions contained in the National Action Plan 2020-2023 derived from the National Dispatch Time Study (2019), seeking to increase the country's competitiveness.
The agreement was signed by the Superintendent of Tax Administration, Marco Livio Díaz Reyes; the Minister of National Defense, Henry Yovani Reyes Chigua; the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, Edgar René de León; the Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance, Francisco José Coma Martín and the Director of the Guatemalan Migration Institute, Manuel Estuardo Rodríguez Valladares.
